James Gilbert Pyle (Jim), of Temperance, Michigan was born in Monroe, Michigan to Margaret Siegfried and J. Raymond Pyle on September 21, 1935. He passed away on May 12, 2017, at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania, Ohio, after an extended illness, and he now rests in the arms of his Savior. He attended Boyd School and graduated from Monroe High School in June, 1953. He was on the Monroe Trojan Swimming Team while in high school. He attended the University of Michigan and then Toledo University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961 from Alma College and with a Master of Arts Degree from Eastern Michigan in December 1963. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He was a parachutist and a clerk typist at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Mr. Pyle was employed as an Elementary Teacher at Carleton Elementary School from 1962 to 1964. He then was employed as a teacher for 15 years by the Monroe Public Schools and as an elementary school principal for 20 years at Waterloo School, South Monroe Townsite School, Riverside School, and Raisinville Elementary School. He retired in 1997.
He married Aileen Faulhaber on April 2, 1960, at the Maybee Congregational Church with Pastors L. Paul Markham and Clarence Burkhart officiating. They recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They have three children, Marcia (Dan) Forster, Susan (Phillip) Pfiester, Monroe, Michigan; and James A. (Jennifer Croak) Pyle, Oregon Ohio. They have 8 grandchildren, Kristen Forster, Kevin James Forster, Jonathan Forster, Stephen Pfiester, Caleb Pfiester, Lily Pyle, Timothy James Pyle, and Leah Pyle. Mr. Pyle is survived by sisters Ann Honickel and Sydney Grubb. He is pre-deceased by his parents, and brother David L. Pyle, and inlaws, Harry and Jeanette Faulhaber.
Mr. Pyle was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Monroe, Michigan, for 60 plus years where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. He and his wife joined the Lambertville United Methodist Church after moving to Temperance, Michigan in 2002, where they were active.
Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, and woodworking. He was an avid University of Michigan football fan and enjoyed cheering on the Detroit Tigers baseball team. He and his wife spent winters in Florida from 2000 to 2014. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a cruise and trip to Alaska. They loved camping and traveling to many states.
Mr. Pyle was a member of the NEA, MEA, MARSP, and the Bedford Senior Citizens. He served on the board of the Pines Condominium Association.

Visitation will be from 3-8 pm on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Michael Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd., Temperance, MI. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 15, 2017, at the Lambertville United Methodist Church, 8165 Douglas, Rd., Lambertville, MI. where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetary, LaSalle, MI. Memorial contributions may be made out to Autism Society of Northwest Ohio.
